A 14MWp solar PV plant in the town of Hirono within Iwate Prefecture along Japan's Pacific coast, reached its Commercial Operation Date (COD) on September 17. Sonnedix Hirono, marks the sixth Sonnedix project in Japan to achieve commercial operation in 2022.

The plant located in Iwate Prefecture, is expected to produce 15,800MWh of clean energy during its first year of operation. This is the equivalent to powering around 3,700 households, avoiding the emissions of over 7,500 metric tons of CO2 per year. The electricity generated by the solar plant will be sold to Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) under FiT regime, for 18 years.

"We are very excitedthat our team has perservered through a time of global market uncertainty to have this project come to fruition," said Axel Thiemann, Sonnedix Group CEO. "This is an example of our commitment and diligence to expand responsibly and sustainabily to position us as a leading player in the Japanese renewables market."

The plant is equipped with JA Solar modules and TMEIC inverters. Juwi Shizen Energy acted as the EPC contractor and will perform Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities.

On behalf of the Sonnedix group of companies (the Sonnedix Group), Sonnedix Japan currently manages 24 plants, with a total operational capacity of 433MWp and a total capacity of 62MWp under construction.
