Sonnedix and Statkraft have signed 10-year solar pay-as-produced power purchase agreements (PPAs) for a new portfolio of solar projects in Italy.

Sonnedix will supply Statkraft with a combined 48GWh/year of green electricity, equivalent to avoiding over 12,000 tons of CO2, capable of powering more than 18,000 Italian homes with clean electricity.

The portfolio, which consists of two solar photovoltaic (PV) plants with a total capacity of 34MWp, has already begun construction in the region of Lazio, west-central Italy. This transaction marks the second collaboration for Sonnedix and Statkraft in Italy and the third [collaboration] in Europe. Last July, both companies signed PPAs for a solar portfolio in Italy with a total capacity of 22MWp.

"Our growth in the Italian market is made feasible by the invaluable collaboration of partners, such as Statkraft, who share our vision for a brighter and sustainable future" stated Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix. "By expanding our operations, we can reinforce our role as a dependable renewable energy producer of green electricity for the communities we serve."

"Statkraft is delighted to continue its growth path as a major PPA provider in Italy and proud to be a reliable partner for Sonnedix," says Simon Kornek, VP South Europe Origination, Statkraft.

Sonnedix has been present in Italy since 2010 and currently has over 2GW of capacity in projects under operations, construction, and various development phases in the country.

Statkraft offers standardised PPA solutions and manages significant market and operational risks connected to the long-term offtake of power from renewable power plants. Furthermore, Statkraft develops, operates, and markets hydropower plants, solar farms and wind farms in numerous European markets, which make it possible to offer industrial and commercial companies tailor-made green power solutions. In this role Statkraft supports its corporate customers by limiting the impact of volatile power prices on their business, while reducing their carbon footprint and helping them to achieve their sustainability and climate goals.

Sonnedix was advised by Our New Energy (ONE) for this transaction.
