Please comment / advise how , in your opinion, selected ‘ALL Aluminium Ground Mounting System I or II’ will meet paragraph Principal objective to achieve and if there is another system which will be more suitable, with proviso that ground screw or helical pile are to be used.
Background: plan to install a cluster of 1-10MW PV (solar) farms in selected locations in New Zealand. Starting with pilot installation of say 1MW located in Otago in the South Island, New Zealand
Input:
Capacity: 1MW (1,000,000 Watt AC)
Configuration selected:
Tilt: 40 deg
Wind: open farmland, 160 km/h, snow load: nil
Soil: clay, might be stones or New Zealand schist
Foundation : ground screw, screw pile, helical pile
Panel orientation: landscape
Configuration of array: 4 panel row, 3 panel column (4 x 3)=> total 12 PV panel in an array
Number of piers (screw piles) for one (4 x 3) array: 4
PV panel size: 1638x982x40mm / 245W (panel selected from your brochure example for simplicity, at this time panel match to inverter is not done yet , panel might be 300 - 400W)
Number of racks for array (4 x 3) : 476 racks (4 x 3) with panel 245W for 1MW AC solar farm
Principal objective to achieve: select the array structure and configuration for the solar farm utility scale application which will be the least damaged in case of an earthquake. ENF Solar directory has all possible configurations and there will be a few which meet earthquake consideration best.
Assumption 1: an PV array consisting rigid and continuous structure of eg 4 PV panel row high and more then 10 PV panels columns long (total 40 PV panels) supported by multiple piers (more than 6 ground screw or helical pile) will break in multiple points and break PV panels in case of the earthquake
Assumption 2: an array supported by:
4 piers in configuration 4row x 2colums (total 8 PV) or 4rows x 3columns (total 12PV) might NOT BREAK the panels in case of an earthquake, and
6 piers in configuration 4row x 4columns (total 16 PV) or 4rows x 5columns (total 20PV) WILL BREAK the panels in case of an earthquake
Please provide result of calculations in what data window rack system will survive:
Wind download (shear) and uplift forces
Ground screw minimum depth for wind forces
Torosial capacity or design tension or design compression
Wind speed which selected 4 x 3 configuration and selected PV panel will not withstand, ie needed more rails, more piers or bigger pipe diameter

Wind Speed: 180km/h
Tilt: 5° East and 5° West
Slope of area where panels are installed is around 45°.
Total number of rows: 7.
Total number of panels: 556 (250W-160panels and 260W-396panels )
Module Dimensions (260W): 1640 x 990 x 40mm. First 5 rows from the RHS in the 1st image below.
Module Dimensions (250W): 1550 x 992 x 45mm. Last two rows on the LHS.
Note: If possible rows can be reduced to 4 by having 4 rows (instead of 2) of panels on each side (East & West) of mounting. If you see in the second image each row has 80 panels (40 on east (2 x 20) and 40 on west (2 x 20)). This can be changed to 160 panels per row (80 on east (4 x 20) and 80 on west (4 x 20). This way we can reduce cost of the mounting.
